being hit as a child teaches you many things, i’d guess. mostly, it teaches you that might makes right. and as a child, you will have no argument against that. and so it is likely that you will learn it well.
being hit as a child may teach other things. but…
This is dumb. My child-send of justice is hurt by the injustice of being punished for something I did wrong? No, my child sense of justice went, “Yep, you were a dumbass. You probably either need to do that better or don’t do it.”
It was never violence either. My mother throwing me across a room because i accidentally colored off of the page and on to the floor would have been violence. My mother spanking me because i was sneaking people into the house while she was at work after getting grounded was not violence. It wasn’t rage induced. It wasn’t mentally scarring. I learned my lesson. If grounding and timeout and other forms of punishment don’t work she certainly wasn’t going to let me walk all over her because spanking me was abuse. It was in no uncertain terms a way of telling me to behave when i wasn’t. And that child sense of justice let me know i deserved it because i was doing wrong by the woman working two jobs to feed and clothe me. Don’t make assumptions about my mother, or anyone else’s parents and how they choose to discipline their kids because you don’t know them.
I could go on further with this, but i’ll leave it there. No need to get all riled up over something as ridiculous as this.
